MARCH 12

A strong warming trend preceded our first tournament of the year, warming the waters over 15 degrees F in some locations from a week prior.  The Neuse was muddy and the Trent blown out, toughening conditions on an otherwise ideal day.  Air temps touched 80*.  Winds were variable SE 5-15 mph.  55 boats launched, bring to the scales 24 limits, a 2.14# average fish, and the largest Big Fish we have seen in years.  Some great weights were posted, but top for the day was the duo of Kent and Chris Manning with 18.26# of bass with an 8.69# kicker!  10 zeroes were recorded.  Ramp payout was $2,750 with Classic Fund accruing $550.  This tournament, which was added to the original schedule, proved to be our largest field to date.  Full Results available at the button below.

MARCH 26

After a cool turn, warmer weather again preceded our second tournament of the year.  However a cool front showed up during the day, which appears to have hampered the big bites.  The Neuse remained muddy and the Trent was rising fast at the launch on a quite windy day.  Air temps remained fairly stable at 66* throughout the day.  Winds were easterly 5-15 mph.  57 boats launched, bringing to the scales 36 limits, a 1.88# average fish, and a Big Fish of 4.53#. Best bag of the day was claimed by the team of Brian and Joe Haddock with 14.95# of bass with an 4.19# kicker.  Four zeroes were recorded.  Ramp payout was $2,850 with Classic Fund accruing $570.  This tournament bested our previous event to become our largest field to date.  Full Results available at the button below.

2nd - Al Kennedy / Brandon Burnham - 13.76#

APRIL 2

Extremely low water levels greeted the anglers at the launch of our third tournament of 2016.  Wind and rain buffetted the anglers throughout the day.  Air temps peaked at 72*.  Winds were SW 10-15 mph with gusts to 35 mph, continuing the drawdown on New Bern area waters.  54 boats launched, producing 33 limits, average fish of 1.98#, 3.87 fish/team, and 8 zeroes.  The winning limit was turned in by Al & Mark Kennedy, with a total weight of 16.76#, which included the tournament Big Fish of 5.51#.  Ramp payout was $2,700 with Classic Fund accruing $540.  The field size has remained large and we look for that trend to continue into the summer.  Full results available at the button below.

May 21

A field of 44 teams gathered for our fourth 2016 qualifier on a day forecasts called for thunderstorms throughout.  While some rain did show, no severe weather threatened, leaving only overcast skies and high temps around 80*.  A 10 mph west wind during the day caused water levels to drop rapidly in the Trent and muddy Neuse.  The bite was slow for many but 23 limits were produced, with a fish average of 2.07# and 3.5 fish/team.  Eight zeroes were recorded.  Chris Barrett brought in the $705 winning bag of 15.24# anchored by a 5.93# lunker that would easily take most Big Fish awards in New Bern, except this day.  Big Fish of the day came from the team of Jeremy Miller & Bubba Barnett, tipping the scale at 7.37# for $440.  Ramp payout was $1,760 with Classic Fund accruing $440.  Full results available at the button below.

June 4

Fifty-five boats gathered for our fifth qualifier of the 2016 season.  Heavy downpours were still coming through at launch, but gave way to a hot, muggy 91* day afterward with a slight breeze from the SW.  Teams brought 27 limits to the scales, an average of 3.13 fish/team, 2.04# per fish.  Unlike previous events, this qualifier also coincided with another tournament.  No major issues were voiced and weights were still good.  Sixteen zeroes were recorded.  Big bag was weighed by Jordan Brown fishing solo, with 14.93#, good for $880.  Big fish of 4.79# earned the team of Jimbo Tyndall / Cody Tyndall $550.  Ramp payout was $2750 with Classic Fund accruing $550.  Full results available at the button below.

July 16

A seasonable 89* high with SW breezes and afternoon thunderstorms provided the backdrop for the sixth qualifier of 2016.  Fifty-five teams competed, weighing 38 limits at an average of 1.92#/fish and 4.07 fish/team.  Seven teams failed to weigh a fish.  It appears high water in the Neuse and low water in the Trent did less to impede the success of our anglers this time around.  Wayne Stallings, fishing solo, bested the field with a total weight of 13.95#, good for $880.  His bag was aided by the tournament big fish of 6.45#, good for another $550.  He would need it, as second place was only .02 behind.  Ramp payout was $2750 with Classic Fund accruing $550.  Full results available at the button below.

1st - Wayne Stallings - 13.95#

2nd - Jared Sasnett / Jordan Sasnett - 13.93#

3rd - James Anderson / Shane Zelazo - 12.84#

BF - Wayne Stallings - 6.45#

August 20

Our last qualifying tournament for 2016 consisted of a field of 46 teams.  On a day that saw negligible winds and 90* for the high temperature, bites were in short supply.  While conditions seemed ideal the previous day, numerous inches of rain fell before the tournament start.  The weigh in concluded with 21 limits, 14 zeroes, and 3.04 fish/team.  Fish size remained constant for the summer months at 1.92#/fish.  Greg and Carl Milligan seem to prefer the tough conditions, as they once again brought in a nice bag in less than optimal weather and water.  Their 12.85# limit was good enough for first place of $735 this time, while big fish honors and $460 went to Chance Gray and Ted Parie for their 4.62# lunker.  Ramp payout was $1840 with $460 being added to the Classic Fund.  Full results available at the button below.

1st - Greg Milligan / Carl Milligan - 12.85#

2nd - Steve Bishop - 12.61#

3rd - Danny Flynn / James Ormond - 12.19#

BF - Chance Gray / Ted Parie - 4.62#
